As we age, the effects of gravity become more noticeable on our faces. The supporting tissue of the cheeks weakens and starts to sage. Facial fat is lost, the jawline that used to be firm and tight forms jowls at the edges of the mouth that drift down towards the chin and the lower face an neck sags.

Traditionally, this tendency for ones face to ‘go south’ would lead most people to a cosmetic surgeon in search of a face lift. However there is now a less invasive procedure available which can lift, contour and suspend the sagging tissues of the face and neck, in those who need only little to moderate rejuvenation.

Thread lifting is a safe and effective technique, which allows any sagging skin tissues to become tighter, redefining facial contours and stimulating the formation of new collagen. There are different kinds of threads, which may be used to lift any part of the face, including the forehead, cheeks, jowls, jawline and neck. The two main types are made of either Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLA) or polydioxanone (PDO). Both PLA and PDO have collagen stimulating properties and are resorbable (dissolve over time) leaving tighter ‘repair’ tissue instead as they often produce Type 3 Collagen tissue behind to prolong the result. The threads are either smooth (mono threads) for improving skin texture or consist of barbs, cogs, anchors or screws to reposition the tissue. We use PDO threads.

The results improve with time – usually looking their best after 3 months and would normally be repeated after a year.
