Soft tissue enhancements

As we age we lose volume in the face as fat, collagen, elastin and even bone break down and are not replaced. Gravity takes its toll as muscle tone weakens and ligaments slacken. Skin also loses tone and texture on the surface, resulting in an aged appearance.

Restylane is a filler. This product is identical to natural substances in the body and are completely natural and safe.

Fillers can be used to plump out lines on your face, restoring volume to give a smoother, softer, fresher and more youthful appearance. They can be used for lines and wrinkles around the mouth, forehead, nose and eyes.

Also to restore volume in the cheeks and tear troughs (under the eyes) and to tighten the jaw line.

The latest injectables can create lips that are the size and shape that you desire, restoring fullness that time has depleted. Fillers can also be used to enhance natural features, to give them greater volume and define the lip line. Lips that are soft and full help create a beaming smile and a more confident appearance.

We use hyaluronic acid fillers, Restylane, at the Practice. These require no allergy testing prior to their use. They work by stimulating the body's own production of hyaluronic acid and collagen, thus resulting in better lubrication and cushioning under the skin surface.

Restylane is a laboratory produced filler that is biodegradable.

Treatment will last 6-9 months and will need topping up when you feel the effect starting to wear off - any time between 6 and 12 months.

Why dentists offer this treatment?

Dentists have the perfect skills for this type of cosmetic work. We have years of practice at giving injections and we are highly knowledgeable about the anatomy of the face (muscles, nerves and blood vessels etc). We are used to looking at people's faces to observe symmetry and create aesthetically pleasing smiles. We are also able to use traditional local anaesthesia for some of the techniques as required. Dr Tannahill often uses cannulas for her work, which means a softer more gentle approach, with product placed just where it is needed whilst minimising side effects.
